A Coca-Cola commercial produced by Leo Burnett for the China market

has been adapted for airing in Hong Kong and Taiwan as well, with

CantoPop singer Nicholas Tse extolling the virtues of the fizzy

drink.

The airing of the commercial coincided with the launch of a new Pepsi

campaign in Hong Kong and China which featured two other CantoPop stars

Faye Wong and Aaron Kwok (MEDIA, September 15).

The Coke TVC has Nicholas Tse skateboarding on the moon and Coca Cola

China Hong Kong region country manager Scott Price told MEDIA the teen

idol was used because he is popular among the youth market.

Mr Price also said that skateboarding is a popular sport in the SAR,

which made the ad more relevant to Coke's target market.

The airing of the TVC came more than a month after Coke appointed

McCann-Erickson Guangming and Grey to take charge of the beverage

giant's carbonated and non-carbonated drinks accounts respectively.

But while Coke and Pepsi battle for supremacy in the Greater China

market, Hong Kong newspapers are reporting that Faye Wong and Nicholas

Tse are romantically involved with each other.
