Pepsi has cut the price of its 300ml pack by Rs2 (about five US cents) to Rs6, Coke claims its 300 ml has been selling at that rate for some time, and has priced its 1.5 litre and 2.25 packs at Rs 30 and Rs 43 respectively.
Last year, Coke and Pepsi both launched a 200ml pack priced at Rs 5 and promoted this price point with heavy marketing activities.
Meanwhile, Coke has also cut prices on its mango juice drink, Maaza, bringing its pricing in line with that of its carbonated drinks.
Pepsi has said it will follow suit. The brand is also readying new communication featuring its brand ambassadors, a move that has industry observers anticipating an early start to this year's battle of the bottles.
