CNBC taps Christie for Aussie push

SYDNEY: The Asia-Pacific arm of global news network CNBC is beefing up its Australian presence with the appointment of its first local managing director.

Matthew Christie will be responsible for all aspects of CNBC Asia's operations in the Australian market, including identifying business opportunities, developing business strategies and building relationships with local cable operators and advertisers. The new role is part of CNBC's "localisation" strategy which entails building stronger, individual voices for its secondary markets.

In conjunction with CNBC's Singapore office, Christie will also be responsible for planning and executing the network's local business plans as well as distribution, advertising sales and programming. Prior to CNBC, Christie spent six years with Multi Channel Network, where he worked his way to group manager of multimedia and played a key role in luring advertisers to Australia's first interactive television campaigns.

He has also held various positions with Foxtel and publishing house Australian Consolidated Press.

"Australia is one of CNBC Asia-Pacific's largest and fastest-growing markets and Matthew has quickly proved himself to be the ideal person to manager our operations there," CNBC Asia-Pacific CEO Alexander Brown said.

"His track record in sales along with his experience in pay TV and interactive TV offer a unique blend of experience that will help expand CNBC Asia-Pacific's business in Australia."
