Clear Channel to run HIV/Aids ads for Unicef effort

The United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef) is highlighting the plight of children amid the HIV/Aids pandemic through a major global advertising campaign running in 50 countries.

In Asia-Pacific, the 'Unite for Children, Unite Against Aids' campaign, which has been sponsored by Clear Channel Outdoor, will be seen on billboards and other outdoor displays in Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Korea, Singapore and Thailand. The creative, by South African agency Bester Burke, emerged as the winner from over 300 entries from agencies across the world. It depicts a young child burying her parents and looks to emphasise how children are disproportionately affected by HIV/ Aids. In a statement, Unicef executive director Ann Veneman said: "They are watching their hopes and dreams crumble as parents, teachers, caregivers and role models succumb to Aids. And children still see only a fraction of the resources dedicated to fight the disease. The Clear Channel outdoor partnership will help make the public aware that children are the missing faces of Aids." In Singapore, meanwhile, Clear Channel managing director Telly Tan noted that while the infection rate for children in the city is relatively low, a concerted effort is needed to raise awareness. sm
