Managing director Lara Hussein will assume Chong's duties along with senior account executives, and said that the hunt for a replacement is underway.
According to Hussein, Chong wanted a change from the agency scene.
Chong leaves M&C during a period of considerable growth for the agency. Recent wins include the enterprise (B2B) business of Malaysian telco giant Celcom and corporate branding assignments for Sheraton Hotels & Resorts, construction giant La Farge and Godell Group, a carpark operator in Kuala Lumpur.
The Celcom business, believed to have been won following a pitch with fellow incumbent Interface, will involve promoting Celcom's software and hardware products. Hussein said the search is under way for an account manager with digital experience to work on the business.
The Sheraton business was secured following a credentials presentation last month. The brief is to reposition Kuala Lumpur's Sheraton Imperial, which is perceived as old-fashioned compared to rivals such as the KL Hilton.
Hussein noted that M&C's new business wins this quarter were due to the strength of its planning department and branding capabilities.
