DMG Media, Ogilvy & Mather, Cheil and Lintas each currently hold different parts of the China Mobile business.
Sources close to the client reportedly say the pitch is for Fetion, an instant-messaging service similar to Tencent's WeChat.
The move is seen as a strategic step to take on the rival app and enhance the telco's presence in the mobile internet sector.
An amount of US$103.9 million (RMB 640 million) has been invested in the restructure of the app, which launched back in 2007.
