China ad revenue rises 9 per cent

BEIJING - China's advertising revenue rose more than nine per cent in 2008 to Rmb 189.9 billion (US$27.8 billion), the State Administration of Industry and Commerce announced.

According to local reports, this increase amounted to Rmb 15.8 billion.

The Administration further found that digital has been growing more slowly than other media sectors as the market’s digital ad revenue neared Rmb 2.78 billion. This represented a more than 10 per cent increase from 2007, or a rise of Rmb 257 million.

In comparison, the reports noted that TV advertising revenue increased more than 13 per cent to Rmb 50.15 billion, while magazine revenue reached Rmb 3.1 billion after a 17 per cent increase.

Meanwhile, newspaper ad revenue increased more sluggishly at 6.36 per cent to Rmb 34.2 billion.
