Cheung will report to Star chief executive Paul Aiello. He will be charged with preparing the media company for the digitisation of terrestrial and cable TV by offering a broader range of content.
“This presents an opportunity for content providers like us to offer more compelling content for viewers in Taiwan,” Cheung said.
Prior to his promotion, Cheung served as chief executive of ANTV, Star’s Indonesian joint venture. He has also worked as eneral manager of Star Taiwan, and as deputy regional director for Greater China in a career with the company that has so far spanned 17 years.
Meanwhile, reporting to the News Corp-owned company’s president of entertainment, Todd Lituchy, Siu will oversee the operation of two Chinese movie channels and will work with Fox Star Studios to develop Chinese film production projects for local and global distribution.
Based in Hong Kong, Star broadcasts in 10 languages across 53 countries.
