Wansom has filled key senior roles since joining the Star group in 1997. He was previously co-general manager and vice-president of Channel V Thailand.
The promotion follows a decision "to expand the operation", as the core target group of 15-to-35 year olds showed a distinct outdoor lifestyle that favoured mobile communications. "Instead of focusing the majority of our attention on the cable television side, we're also looking into multi-messaging content as well as concerts. We have organised concerts in the past but not to the extent of what we are planning."
Wansom expected the move would open up additional revenue streams and expand the brand, which can be seen in more than 400,000 homes via the UBC cable and satellite pay TV networks.
Wansom, who will continue to oversee distribution and marketing, will report to the board of directors of the joint-venture company operated by Channel V and Broadcasting Network Thailand.
During his time with Star, Wansom has helped to launch several key Star channels on Pay-TV networks in Asia-Pacific. His previous territorial responsibilities included Indochina, the Philippines and Hong Kong.
He has also played a key role in launching Channel V Thailand's first annual music video awards and introducing short messaging and interactive services to the music network.
