Cathay shifts Purvis into new green role

HONG KONG - Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong's principal airline and flag carrier, is stepping up efforts to reduce its environmental impact with the appointment of Dominic Purvis (pictured) - who until recently led the company's loyalty initiatives - as general manager of environmental affairs, a newly-created position.

Replacing Purvis as general manager of loyalty programmes will be Paul Loo, currently commercial manager of Cathay loyalty.

Purvis noted that his new role would be a “big change” from his previous position, adding that his experience of green issues was limited. His new tasks will include developing initiatives to tackle the airline’s emissions in line with global policy decisions, and ensuring the airline remained an attractive proposition to investors increasingly concerned with the “hot topic” of sustainability.

Purvis will work alongside environmental practitioners who will engage with government bodies and NGOs to help the Swire-owned company “understand how to meet requirements”.
