Cathay marketing head tipped to step down

HONG KONG - Cathay Pacific general manager of marketing Charlie Stewart-Cox is believed to be stepping down from the position to take on a new role, which is thought to be in the airline's operations department.

James Ginns, now country manager of Japan, is expected to step into the role, although it is not clear when the respective moves will officially take place. Stewart-Cox has held the position for almost a decade. Prior to joining the marketing operation, he was general manager, group public affairs, Swire Group, responsible for media and PR activities for Cathay Pacific and its parent group.

Most recently, he spearheaded the integration of Dragonair’s marketing and communications department and strategy into Cathay’s platform, which saw the business consolidated with McCann Erickson and Universal McCann at the expense of Leo Burnett and Starcom. Ginns has held various posts across Cathay’s network, including Indonesia country manager, and was part of the team which oversaw logistics in moving from the old Kai Tak Airport to Chep Lap Kok.

A source said: “(Stewart-Cox) is one of the longest-serving GMs but, typically at this time of year, there’s a few moves with the organisation.”

Stewart-Cox and Ginns were unavailable for comment at Media’s presstime.
