Purvis’ former role as general manager of loyalty programmes will be assumed by Paul Loo, currently commercial manager of Cathay loyalty.
Having joined the airline in 1989, Purvis said that the new position would be a significant change from his previous, consumer-focused experience, but added that it was essential to keep the company up to speed with environmental policy.
He explained that as well as developing environmentally focused solutions, efficient, open communication was critical to the airline’s continued success as investors would be likely to avoid companies unable to demonstrate sufficient environmental awareness.
"We need to be more open and communicate more clearly what is being done," he said. "But it’s not always about press releases and big ads - it’s about communicating the right message to the right people face to face."
