CAREERS: Q&A with Vivian Lee, marketing manager, Ocean Park Hong Kong

Name: Vivian Lee Age: 35 Job title: Marketing manager, Ocean Park Hong Kong

Your greatest work achievement? The launch of Ocean Park's Halloween Bash in 2001 and 2002. In 2001, the party was straight after 9/11 and the economy was really bad. But it was a success that we drew 300,000 visitors that month (a record high). In 2002, the awareness of the event was so high that Ocean Park was already known for its Halloween party.

Dream brand to work on and why? Every brand is a good brand, as I believe, every brand can provide me with an opportunity to learn and grow the brand.

What would you do if you weren't in marketing? I want to be a traveller and visit every part of the world.

What was your big break? Joining Ocean Park three and a-half-years ago. I realised that I could work for a non-profit organisation and I learned to market to a mass market as opposed to engineers when I was in the hi-tech industry.

Who was your mentor? My former boss at National Semiconductor, who taught me not only to focus on the small things, but to also see the bigger picture and to see things from different perspectives.

Is there a secret to your success? I believe in teamwork. Good motivation and communication can make things happen quickly.

How do you handle difficult clients? Listen to their problems and understand their needs. Most importantly, find a solution for them.

What advice would you give to the next person to do your current job? Have fun marketing a theme park.

What are you currently reading? The 360 Degree Brand in Asia by Mark Blair, Richard Armstrong and Mike Murphy.

Business person you most admire? Carly Fiorina, CEO and chairman of Hewlett-Packard, is one of a few women in a key role. Her ability to pull off the biggest merger in history, despite all the challenges, was amazing.
