Job title Head of marketing, Aviva (formerly CGU International)
What is your greatest work achievement?
Listing of hongkong.com on GEM and the regional launch of Pentium processor for Intel.
What would be your dream brand to work on and why?
I think having a good chemistry with your boss and those working around you is more important than working for a particular brand. But, if I must pick one, it would be Nike; I just love the brand (and 'Just do it' fits me so well).
What would you do if you weren't in marketing?
A golf professional if I was a better player. Or in the legal profession.
Is there a secret to your success?
Not sure whether I've achieved that yet, but I think having business sense (or even plain common sense), good presentation and interpersonal skills, plus having the right attitude to be open to ideas and to manage change, would help. While this sound rather cliched there are just too few people with the right mix of qualities.
How do you handle difficult clients?
Hard work and a true sense of commitment to serve. Offer solutions to problems and I'm sure with time clients soon soften up.
What advice would you give to the next person to do your current job?
Again think of solutions to problems and stick to the status quo only when it makes sense.
What are you currently reading that will help you in your job?
I like reading IABC newsletters and books that inspire me on how to think (Think like a Genius). Some books on branding like Hero and the Outlaw are also pretty good.
Who is the business person you most admire and why?
I can't think of a business person, but the person I admire most is Leonardo da Vinci. His life clearly demonstrates how infinite human potential can be. If we brought him to modern times, I'm sure he would excel in numerous areas, multi-task, and would do it all very well!
