Age: 33
Job title: Regional marketing manager, audio/video, e-marketing, Philips Consumer Electronics (APAC, Middle East and Africa)
What is your greatest work achievement?
In 1996, I was part of the pioneering team at Philips to set up the consumer communications division whereby we entered an extremely competitive mobile phones market. We did pretty well, capturing market shares of 10-12 per cent in Thailand, Taiwan, Malaysia and the Philippines, and we launched many industry firsts. I also managed a global brand campaign in Asia-Pacific to revitalise the Philips brand in 1997.
What would be your dream brand to work on and why?
Intel, Microsoft, Nike, Nokia, Coke and Virgin. I've worked at Intel before and it's a great company with highly-committed people who believe in and are passionate about what they do.
What would you do if you weren't in marketing?
Perhaps consulting, or being the editor of an online website or managing a bookstore. To be honest, I can't imagine not being in marketing.
What was your big break?
I believe each stage of my career and life has its memorable moments and every chance is a learning opportunity.
Who was your mentor and how did this person influence you?
There are two people whom I respect and admire. The first is my former boss who has many years of experience in branding and marketing. He is passionate about branding and is very inspirational to work with. The second is the managing director of an ad agency. He drives the business with vigour and is considerate to his staff.
Is there a secret to your success?
Lots of drive, determination, people skills and good colleagues. Most importantly, you must like what you do.
How do you handle difficult clients?
I try to see their point of view, come to a common ground and address their concerns directly. They appreciate honesty, so it's best to make expectations clear and deliver what you promise. Integrity is everything.
What advice would you give to the next person to do your current job?
Lots of initiative, drive, and take risks.
What are you currently reading that will help you in your job?
'China and the WTO' by Supachai Panitchpakdi and Mark Clifford.
Who is the business person you most admire and why?
Jack Welch, former CEO of GE.
