What is your greatest achievement?
Surviving the Asian economic meltdown in 1998. We were running the company out of my very dingy Kuala Lumpur apartment at the time. Things were finally picking up for us when the ringgit fell through the floor and nearly took us with it. We managed to keep going by doubling our sales efforts and focusing our energies towards growing our business in Hong Kong. This proved to be a good decision and I'm happy to say we haven't looked back since.
What would be your dream brand to work on and why?
We just picked that one up last month - PepsiCo in China. We have a great opportunity to do things that have never been done online before in one of the world's most exciting and fastest-growing consumer markets.
What would you do if you weren't in marketing?
Be bored.
What was your big break?
Landing Carlsberg Malaysia, one of our first big accounts back in 1997.
Who was your mentor?
My father - in so many different ways.
Is there a secret to your success?
Still looking for that particular secret but I'm beginning to think the answer has something to do with finding the right balance between optimism and realism.
How do you handle difficult clients?
With a large helping of patience in a finite quantity.
What advice would you give to the next person to do your current job?
Learn how to juggle ten things at once and find yourself a good psychiatrist.
What are you currently reading that will help you in your job?
The Economist.
Who is the business person you most admire and why?
I'm a great fan of successful entrepreneurs - Steve Jobs for his creativity, Larry Ellison for his drive and Richard Branson for his style and sheer audacity!
