One of Australia's most-awarded copywriters - Mike Edmonds - has

taken the post of creative director at Perth's largest advertising

agency, Marketforce Advertising.

Edmonds, the nation's only dual winner of the Best of Show at the Perth

Advertising and Design Club awards, fills the gap left by Adam Barker

and Lori Canalini who quit as joint creative directors to start up their

own shop.

Marketforce group managing director John Driscoll has embraced Edmonds

as "the obvious" choice for the job.

Edmonds joins Marketforce, which services clients on a national and

international scale, after 10 years at Perth-based 303 Advertising.

Prior to that he spent seven years at JMA Ogilvy & Mather, also in

Perth.

"We worked with some of the best clients in Perth and it was fun and we

did good work, but I just figured after 10 years it was time for a

change," Edmonds said.

During his tenure, Edmonds has clocked up a plethora of awards, many for

work on some of Australia's largest brands such as Bank West, HBF health

cover, furniture brand Ikea, the West Australian Tourist Commission and

Channel Seven Western Australia.

His portfolio of the past 15 years includes wins with the London

International Advertising Awards, New York Festival, AWARD, Golden

Stylus, One Show and ATV.

In Perth, Edmonds collected the PADC Best of Show award twice, once for

a radio spot on road safety and again for a TVC promoting the theme park

Adventure World.

While at 303 and JMA, the agencies each won the Campaign Brief Agency of

the Year awards.

Marketforce has a number of specialist companies covering direct

marketing, PR, design and ecommerce.

Edmonds appointment is just one of several recent high profile

shifts.

Michael Newman also has resigned as executive creative director of

Saatchi & Saatchi Australia to set up his own consultancy,

Brandnewman.

Newman's idea is to establish a resource centre where clients can access

creative, strategic, tactical and brand ideas.

At the same time Samuelson Talbot has ended a worldwide search with the

appointment of former UK creative Alastair Simpson as joint creative

director.
