In recent years, Mexican brew Sol, has been shifted off distributors' shelves in favour of its more well-known rival, Corona, but to its credit, it's fighting back, in Asia at least.

Sol's China-based brand chiefs have teamed up with heavy-hitter Carlsberg, tapping the brand's marketing and distribution savvy in a bid to lift Sol out of the doldrums.

The brand has already embarked on a below-the-line push in Hong Kong offering consumers holidays to Cancun, with China and possibly the rest of the region set to follow.

But Sol faces a difficult battle. Corona has taken advantage of the lapse in marketing competition to firmly establish itself across the region, and experts predict it will be difficult to shift the now-incumbent from its pedestal.
