By Stephanie Roberts melbourne A purpose-built five-star lakeside conference centre and a golf and conference resort are part of the plans at Campus Bright - an established holiday resort in Victoria, Australia - to target the conference and incentive (C&I) sector. "Campus Bright became fully operational a year ago and we have already launched our first campaign to target corporate clients and the MICE market," project manager Mr Martyn Paterson said. "Our MICE planner has only just been distributed but we have been welcomed by the Victorian regional conference group and Tourism Victoria." The resort's priority, however, is to focus on upgrading existing locally owned facilities while external investment for the conference facilities is sought. "The Bright community and entertainment centre can accommodate up to 400 for a conference," Mr Paterson said. "The Bright area has an estimated 20,000 beds." Mr Paterson added Campus Bright's compact location was suitable for C&I groups. "Several central meeting venues are within walking distance of hotels and shops," he said. "We have a newly formed tourism marketing group, including the funding and resources of three major ski resorts, which is committed to extending seasonal markets to a year-round focus." The new A$19million (US$9million) airport at Mount Hotham is able to take flights from Asia. "Due to our close proximity to Albury, which has several flights a day from Ansett and Qantas, we see this region as attracting clients from Asia Pacific," Mr Paterson added.
