Cable TV secures FIFA World Cup rights

HONG KONG - Cable Television, which last year lost the English Premier League (EPL) broadcasting rights to Now TV, has retained the rights to football's showcase event, the World Cup, for an undisclosed amount.

The deal, which marks the third successive time that the Hong Kong-based pay TV broadcaster has won the rights, will see Cable TV air all 64 games of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, along with qualifying matches and international friendlies.

Cable TV has also picked up the rights to a number of other competitions, including the U17 and U20 youth World Cups, the FIFA Women’s World Cup in China and the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Brazil.
