Brokenshire wins industry award

KUALA LUMPUR The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre's general manager, Peter Brokenshire, has been awarded the Tourism Minister's Special Award at the Malaysia Tourism Awards 2005/2006.

The award recognises individuals and organisations who have contributed significantly to Malaysia’s tourism industry.

Brokenshire joined Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre in February 2003 and single -handedly marketed the venue until the team joined a year later.

Under his leadership, the centre turned in an impressive performance with more than 1.5 million people attending 430 events last year. This in turn contributed US$128 million to the Malaysian economy.

Meanwhile, the convention centre’s director of sales and marketing and sales, Jennifer Salsbury, has left after completing her contract in May.

The position is currently vacant and a spokesperson for the centre said the search for a replacement had not started.

In the short-term, Salsbury’s responsibilities will be divided between Brokenshire and the convention centre’s director of operations, Adam Mather-Brown.
