BRANDING: Tech firm sharpens retail image

HONG KONG: Pine Technology has unveiled a new brand identity and packaging design for its second-generation internet-related gaming product in a renewed battle at the retail level.

The Hong Kong-listed company, which specialises in the design and development of internet-related products, revamped the branding system to maximise impact for the launch of its 3D Phantom XP 8200 graphic card.

Pine's product manager Arthur Lui said: "We looked at the potential for our brand to capture the attention and purchase of young techno-savvy gaming experts as well as the companies which need their services."

Lui said the investment in its brand identity would enable Pine to stand out against the multitude of competitors from Taiwan in this fast-moving segment. The company counts MSI and Leadtec as its major rivals.

The XP 8200 is touted as the first product in the market to use the Xabre 400 chipset, allowing it to deliver high definition television and LCD output as well as dual-view function.

The brand design features a sans-serif squared-off type to emphasise the simplicity and speed of installation and usage, according to brand consultancy FutureBrand Hong Kong, which handled the assignment. The packaging is in black, red and turquoise to convey excitement and technology and features graphically-enhanced action photography. FutureBrand's managing director Po Cheung said: "Our new packaging system took into account this innovation, future expansion; the design had to speak to both user and distributor."
