Brand Thailand responds to political crisis

BANGKOK - The Tourism Authority of Thailand is set to increase marketing budget in tandem with Thai Airways, in response to the political crisis gripping the country.

While Tourism Thailand’s 2009 marketing budgets are set to rise by up to 30 per cent, Thai Airways’ EVP Pandit Chanapai has called on every office to embark on an “accelerated sales and marketing push.” A joint campaign is slated to launch before the end of the year.

The duo are already co-hosting a ‘Thailand invitation’ trip for over 800 media representatives and travel operators worldwide, all of whom are being flown to Thailand and back courtesy of Thai Airways.

In addition, Tourism Thailand will be launching an ‘Amazing Thailand’ photo contest to promote Thailand as a tourist destination.

The main objective of the contest is to draw in tourists to see the beauty of Thailand from a foreigner’s point of view.

The contest, which is open to all nationalities with the exception of Thai nationals, will be launched on 15 November and will run through to 30 April next year.
