Bookings for the 2008 Singapore Airshow far exceed expectations

SINGAPORE With eight months to go, advance bookings for the 2008 Singapore Airshow have exceeded those for any previous aerospace trade event in Asia.

As of mid-June, 95% of the available exhibition space had been booked, said organisers Singapore Airshow and Events, a joint venture between the Civil

Aviation Authority of Singapore and the Defence Science and Technology Agency.

Managing director Jimmy Lau said that the company was considering adding 2,500 sqm of extra space to accommodate the unprecedented demand.

Exhibitors from 30 countries, including 18 country groups, have already confirmed their participation.

They include leading players from the civil, military, business and general aviation, and space technology sectors. Lau said: “This level of demand emphasises the strategic importance of Asia as the world’s fastest-growing market and of Singapore’s position as the region’s primary aviation hub.”

Asia’s largest-ever aerospace trade event, the 2008 Airshow, will take place from February 19 to 24, 2008 at a new 30-hectare site adjoining Singapore Changi Airport.

The purpose-built, 40,000 sqm air-conditioned exhibition hall will be completed on schedule by September 1.

The site also features a 90,000 sqm static display area and space for up to 100 sea-facing chalets, with roof gardens that allow a 360-degree view of the show site and aerial displays.

Lau said several improvements have been made to the show.

He said: “We will have much better transportation links, easier access to the show site, huge car parks, spacious air-conditioned display halls and top-class food and beverage facilities.”
