The appointment marks the latest stage in a whirlwind two-year period that has seen Bernas work for CNBC, Virgin Mobile Singapore, Yahoo and Nokia.
"Nokia offered me the opportunity to work in gaming, an area that is not only very promising from a business perspective, but also an area that I am personally very passionate about," explained Bernas. "Sitting at my desk playing video games is officially part of my job."
He will report to Carol Soriano, who heads marketing for Nokia's regional multimedia division. Bernas, who joined Yahoo in late 2002, replacing Markus Barnikel, took the post of comms director at Virgin Mobile Singapore in May 2002.
However, he was forced to leave four months later when the company folded its Singapore operations. Prior to that, he spent 18 months at CNBC as general manager of marcomms.
Bernas has spent 12 years in media, entertainment and youth marketing across the region, including stints at MTV Networks Asia and Ogilvy Public Relations Singapore.
