Bellamy Hayden eyes Singapore following Thai closure

BANGKOK - Bellamy Hayden, the Sydney-based communications planning agency, is eyeing a possible launch in Singapore following the closure of its Bangkok office.

The shop closed in Thailand following the resignation of the Pepsi communications planning account with which it launched in May 2007. But the agency is now reviewing its options, with another foray into Southeast Asia expected by the end of 2008.

Bellamy Hayden director Phil Hayden said: "Plan B hasn't been fully worked out yet. But we are still very much committed to the region. Expect Bellamy Hayden 2.0 to have launched within the next financial year."

"What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Our Thailand experience hasn't dampened our spirits. It was always going to be an experiment, and we've learned an incredible amount."

He added: "We weren't playing to our strengths as an agency. We were being asked to go down the executional route. We overestimated the readiness of the market. In Asia, strategy and execution are still bundled closely together.

Meanwhile Bellamy Hayden Southeast Asia MD James Sowden (pictured) declined to comment on the news. He is believed to be searching for job at a Thailand-based agency.
