TOKYO: Beacon Communications has snagged the agency of record deal

for AMP, an international financial services company expanding into

Japan, in a two-way competitive pitch. Fees were not disclosed.

The above and below-the- line assignments follow the agency's July win

of AMP's interactive business to develop its Japanese website.

Adam Hutchinson, chief executive officer of AMP Japan, said: "Our aim

and desire to become more ambitious led to the fact that we needed to be

stretched by some wild ideas."

Michelle Kristula-Green, Beacon managing director, added: "The financial

market in Japan is undergoing many changes which provides new

opportunities for foreign companies." AMP Japan will launch operations

in April 2002 with a B2B ad campaign. Consumer advertising is planned

for 2003. Leo Burnett, which is part of the Bcom3 group that runs

Beacon, handles the brief in Australia.
