BBDO lays off 20 people in Thailand

BANGKOK - Omnicom Group (OMG) agency BBDO is reported to have laid off 20 people in its Bangkok office before the beginning of new year.

This report follows news carried by Media (18th Dec.) that OMG had plans to retrench up to 3,500 jobs within its global network, amounting to almost five per cent of its staff, by the end of last year.

Even though there was no official confirmation from BBDO Thailand by press time, sources claim that all Omnicom agencies have been asked to look closely at the ratio of people working on various businesses.

A spokesperson for Omnicom in New York said in a statement released in December that owing to the current economic conditions, group companies have reviewed staffing levels in line with current business requirements, and that “some, but not all, will have to make adjustments”.

The spokesperson declined to comment on the specific disciplines or locations that would be included in the restructuring.

Omnicom is the industry’s largest holding company, encompassing DDB, TBWA, OMD, and Fleishman-Hillard among other advertising, media and public relations firms.
