BBDO lands 7Up for India

NEW DELHI - PepsiCo has ended its 18-year relationship with JWT India for its carbonated clear lime drink brand, 7Up, handing the business to RK Swamy BBDO after a two-month multi-agency pitch.

“We are creating a new agency, BBDO India, and 7Up is our first brand assignment in the country. We could not have hoped for a more iconic brand with which to launch,” said Chris Thomas, chairman and CEO, BBDO Asia.

BBDO Worldwide, which holds a majority stake in RK Swamy BBDO, is PepsiCo’s globally-aligned agency.
Other agencies which had contested the business included Grey Worldwide, Mudra DDB, Rediffusion DY&R, DraftFCB (Ulka),  and Lowe India.

Punita Lal, executive marketing director, PepsiCo indicated that the company was looking at portfolio expansion, which would bring with it the need to expand the talent pool from which PepsiCo sources its creative ideas and brand communication.

“We are pleased to welcome BBDO India to the PepsiCo family. We have large ambitions on 7Up and were very pleased with the strong creative work and strategic thinking demonstrated by BBDO India,” said Lal.
Meanwhile, JWT India will continue to handle PepsiCo’s all other business, including Pepsi, Mirinda, Tropicana and Slice, among others.

The new agency will assume charge from 1 November.
