BBC expands channel line-up on Hong Kong Cable

HONG KONG - BBC Worldwide Channels Asia will launch four thematic channels on Hong Kong Cable by the end of 2009.

BBC Knowledge will launch first on 29 October, followed by BBC Entertainment, BBC Lifestyle and CBeebies, which will launch at year-end. The new channels will join BBC World News which is already available on the platform.

Mark Whitehead, SVP and GM, BBC Worldwide Channels Asia, said: “We are focused on expanding the reach of BBC Knowledge and all our channel brands to as many viewers as possible throughout Asia. This new deal confirms our commitment to Hong Kong, delivering our wide range of programming to new viewers.”

Vincent Cheung, VP of subscription services of Hong Kong Cable, added: “We are excited to have a partnership with BBC Worldwide Channels to provide high quality programming across a range of genres on our platform.”

In September, BBC announced it was planning to introduce advertising to its BBC Knowledge channel to diversify its revenue streams.
