BatesAsia names Waller to run Cambodia

PHNOM PENH - BatesAsia has hired the creative director of McCann Erickson Russia, Marianne Waller, to run its Cambodia agency and has set up a committee to manage its Indochina operation.

Waller's appointment fills the vacant top job left by Bob McBrain, who moved to Jakarta to run Bates Indonesia in the summer (Media 9 August).

Meanwhile the creation of an Indochina executive committee follows the shift of the sub-region's CEO Peter Sandor to Bates Philippines last month (Media 15 November).

Headed up by Southeast Asia director Peter Skalberg (pictured), the team will include the Bates Vietnam general manager Tue Nguyen, Andrew Martin, the general manager of Bates Cambodia, planning head Natalie Gruis and digital creative Alex Bodman, as well as Waller.

Skalberg commented: “The formation of this regional hub brings together creative, strategy, digital and activation as the four pillars that will add more teeth to our ‘Change Agency’ vision." He added: "By forming this committee we are recognizing the growth ambitions in Indochina, for BatesAsia and our parent company WPP. This is a firm commitment to push Indochina to become the next China or India."

Waller, an Australian, ends a two-year stint in Moscow. Before Russia, she ran the creative department of McCann Indonesia.
