Bates Thailand grows Sony brief with corporate win

Japanese consumer electrionics giant Sony has appointed Bates Thailand to handle its corporate brand account.

While it remains unclear when the campaign will launch, the win marks the latest piece of Sony business to migrate to Bates, after the agency also scooped the electronics giant's Bravia LCD TV account for Thailand. While the pitch lists could not be confirmed for either account shift, it is believed that Lowe Thailand also in the competition for the Bravia business. According to Bates chief operating officer Matthew Godfrey, the two wins point to Bates' increasing profile on Sony pitch lists both in Thailand and regionally. "Sony is one of our key, strategic accounts in Thailand," said Godfrey. "We're certainly getting invited to more pitches and more regional pitches -- because of our quality of work." In addition to corporate and Bravia, Bates Thailand also handles Handycam, Wega and AZ Hi-Fi for Sony, with the account lead taken by Bates Thailand CEO Anjmani Kavalee. In particular, the AZ Hi-Fi campaign, which was rolled out in September, marked the Thai agency's first regional business for Sony. The work is also running in the markets of Australia, India, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand.
