Tsai will take charge of the Shanghai office with its key client portfolio including Shanghai General Motors, Pizza Hut, Remy Martin, Avon, AIA, and Sony Vaio.
“I am an optimistic fighter, my friends said it’s not the good time to go and work in China, with the economic slowdown, but I really want to embrace the opportunity and work with the local team and take the office to a higher level.”
Her position in Taiwan will not be filled for now, and the office will be led by its MD Henry Chu.
Tsai joined Bates Taiwan as strategic planning director from 2001-02, then moved to Nike Taiwan as brand marketing manager a year later before rejoining Bates Taiwan again from 2005.
Meanwhile, Norman Tan, regional executive creative director of BatesAsia China resigned from the agency a month ago and is believed to be taking a career break.
