The initiative aims to promote quality meetings and incentives travel traffic to Thailand.
TCEB president, Natwut Amornvivat, said: “The event is expected to bring 10,000 quality MICE visitors to the country by 2010, generating a revenue of US$20.5 million.”
The number of MICE travellers this year is estimated to be 450,000 with more than US$950 million in revenue.
TCEB director (meetings and incentives), Malinee Kitaphanich, said: “we have invited 80 representatives spanning ten countries and 20 local association buyers to familiarisation trips to Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Koh Chang, allowing them to acquire new experiences and opportunities
for future meetings and incentives, under the ‘Thailand Team Up’ theme.”
Connection Plus 2006 brought almost 5,000 MICE travellers to Thailand in 2007, while the total number of visitors was at 380,000, generating more than US$760 million.
The US$630,000 matching fund project is contributed by TCEB’s partners in different areas: TAT with its expertise in marketing and supporting overseas roadshows and promotions; Thailand
Incentive and Convention Association in coordinating and persuading its members; Thai Airways International sponsoring international travel; Bangkok Airways for domestic travel; and incentive travel operators in Thailand for event-themed familiarisation trips and details about business opportunities.

BANGKOK Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) has teamed up with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), airlines and six MICE agencies to host Connection Plus 2008 in Bangkok and familiarisation trips from June 27 to 30.
