Bangkok The Bangkok Convention Centre (BCC) is investing US$667,000 to add an extra 3,500sqm of exhibition space to its existing facilities and provide a long-term boost to the city's exhibition space. The upgrade was approved in August and Sofitel Central Plaza Bangkok hotel and BCC general manager Mr Martin Reed said the extension was due to be opened at the end of February, boosting total BCC floor space to 6,199sqm. Mr Reed said the extension and upgrade of the BCC would make the venue one of "most competitive" sites in Thailand. The extension would become the BCC's Sky Hall wing and operate as a purpose-built exhibition centre. "The addition of the Sky Hall area is necessary for us to increase our exhibition capacity," Mr Reed said. Mr Reed added reaction to the extension in the industry had been positive and there had been three "tentative" bookings for the new hall already. The BCC is part of the Central Plaza complex and is joined to the Sofitel Central Plaza Bangkok by a shopping mall and walkway. The five-star 607-room hotel also offers 13 function rooms that can host up to 5,000 people.
