Bali offerings set regional standards

The spa at the Four Seasons Jimbaran Bay (www.fourseasons.com/jimbaranbay) offers 11 beds and the 28 therapists can also perform treatments in one of the 147 private villas. Treatments draw upon Balinese and Javanese traditions, and Chinese theories of energy flow.

Groups will be impressed by the lulur body treatment – a Javanese ritual. For a memorable two hours, they will undergo a Balinese massage; exfoliation with turmeric, ginger root and sweetwoods; a rubdown with yoghurt; and a bath filled with flowers grown on-site.
Another treatment not to be missed is the Lithos Therapy – a sequenced treatment for
relaxation and deep muscle work. Hot and cold hand-carved marble instruments are
strategically placed on the body, while at the same time the massage therapist uses
instruments coated with aromatic oils to perform the massage.
The finance ministry of Malaysia stayed here and had spa treatments in six villas, while the Royal Family of Kazakhstan had treatments in 15 villas.
In Nusa Dua, the Laguna Resort and Spa (www.starwoodhotels.com) provides a luxurious
atmosphere in which to relax and rejuvenate.
The spa offers six air-conditioned private salons and one luxury villa for massages, body treatments, facial and beauty treatments including traditional Balinese massage, shiatsu, Swedish, aromatherapy, vichy shower, hair spa and cream bath.
There are also a range of treatments that use the Thalgo range of marine beauty products, together with essential body-care treatments from Bali and Java, using locally derived natural products.
The Ritz-Carlton Resort and Spa (www.ritzcarlton.com) is a stately structure stepping down in levels past the scenic pool to the beach. Each of the spa’s 33 treatment rooms are individually designed and include one hydro-jet room and one suite.
The special feature of the dedicated spa is its Thalasso seawater therapy. In addition to the mineral-rich waters, there’s Aquatonic pools with powerful water jets. Signature packages include
Cinta Abadi – ‘Eternal Love’, Balinese Thalasso Experience and the 75-minute Marine Slimming.
Delegates visiting the spa at the Westin Resort (www.westin.com/bali) will be impressed
by its low-tech, high-touch approach offering a fusion of Balinese traditions and French
style. Four traditional Balinese pavilions by the ocean offer open-air massages. All
treatments are focused on wellness. The signature Magic Ritual includes a foot bath, and an aroma signature massage with the choice of three aromatic blends.
