Baidu and Huashu to bring search to China's TV screens

SHANGHAI - Search engine Baidu has announced an agreement with online television company Huashu Media Internet to bring search options to the nation's TV screens.

Baidu targets China's TV screens

According to a report by Reuters, Baidu and Huashu will jointly develop digital products and business models.

"Search is not limited to a PC or a mobile terminal," said Baidu's assistant to the chief executive Zhang Dongchen in a statement.

Earlier, Baidu discussed international expansion plans and projects. Last month, it partnered up with Microsoft in an agreement that would see Bing powering Baidu's English-word searches within China.

With no further details forthcoming from Baidu, the move seems to resemble Google TV which allows television internet browsing via a box users can hook up to their TV sets. Features include watching and saving online videos, browsing while watching television shows and digital movie streaming via NetFlix.
