AWSJ circulation rises to 72,298 in first half
<p>The Asian Wall Street Journal's audited circulation rose to 72,298 </p><p>daily copies during the first half of 2000, according to the Hong Kong </p><p>Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC). </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>This is an increase of 10.6 per cent over the same period last year. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>Circulation has now grown at over 10 per cent for each of the last three </p><p>ABC reporting periods, the newspaper's longest sustained period of </p><p>double-digit growth in nearly 20 years. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>Circulation rose strongly in Hong Kong and Singapore, the AWSJ's two </p><p>largest markets. Hong Kong circulation increased 17.5 per cent to 15,105 </p><p>copies every day and Singapore circulation 12.9 per cent to 9,601 </p><p>copies. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>The increases reflect the broadening of AWSJ's editorial content over </p><p>the last 18 months. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>The AWSJ last year introduced Personal Journal, a weekly section on </p><p>topics such as food, leisure travel and personal finance. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>In January, AWSJ launched Technology Journal, a monthly third section </p><p>aimed at explaining how open-network digital technologies are changing </p><p>the world of business. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>In addition, the newspaper is offering earlier delivery in many Asian </p><p>markets. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>"Readers have responded well to these improvements," said Mr Urban </p><p>C. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>Lehner, AWSJ publisher and executive editor. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>"We know from experience that the primary reason people buy the paper is </p><p>they like its content, and we're going to give them even more to like in </p><p>the months ahead." </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>Meanwhile, ChinaTimes Interactive and Dow Jones will establish a </p><p>co-branded Chinese-language news service called CT-DJ Chinese Financial </p><p>Wire. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>The service will be called CT-DJ in Taiwan and DJ-CT overseas, and will </p><p>provide Chinese-language financial information to investors in Taiwan </p><p>and around the world. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>It will draw on content provided by ChinaTimes Interactive and Dow </p><p>Jones, with up to 500 items per day covering global financial news and </p><p>information, delivered real-time, 24 hours a day. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>In addition, 50 selected items from the service will be included in </p><p>www.Cmoney88. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>com, a personal finance website of ChinaTimes Interactive, while </p><p>www.wsj.com will carry 50 items on Taiwan financial news from the joint </p><p>service. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>ChinaTimes Interactive will be responsible for the sale of CT-DJ in </p><p>Taiwan, while Dow Jones will handle sales outside of Taiwan. </p><p><BR><BR> </p>
