Dubai Convention Bureau (DCB) is working to make every meeting, convention and
conference that Dubai hosts a success.
The DCB works with industry professionals, including events and meeting planners. The successful hosting of several high-profile MICE events speaks volumes about Dubai’s strengths and capabilities.
The DCB is dedicated to pursuing and winning events for Dubai and promoting Dubai both nationally and internationally as a leading business tourism destination.
The DCB will assist in the planning and organisation of virtually any kind of convention or exhibition.
We help with bid assistance, convention planning, building attendance, on-site event
servicing and destination expertise.
What international events has the UAE hosted this year?
DCB confirmed 12 major conferences in the first six months of this year, 50 per cent more
than the last year and 20 per cent more than the target set for the first half of this year.
The economic impact will be huge. With these events we project approximately US$200 million in investments will be contributed to Dubai’s economy.
The FDI Dental Association took place in October. The International Diabetes Federation also took place in September.
The Professional Education Conference Middle East will take place in 2008 and is the first time the event has been held outside North America or Europe.
Is Dubai’s infrastructure in place to cope with the huge developments?
Any destination must have the infrastructure that helps it transform into a business events
destination – accessibility is key (Dubai has a natural advantage by being located in the
middle of the map), as well as venues of an international standard, hotels that are in
line with the requirements of the organiser and attractions including pre and post-event
tours for groups. Dubai has a wide selection of all of these. We also have a variety of
transport, taxis and buses, and a new monorail that is soon due to come online, as well as more water transportation.
What must Dubai do to compete with the regional MICE competition?
We need to bid for events that are going to be beneficial to Dubai as a destination.
We can’t just bid for any event going. They must also contribute to the community, educationally and culturally, and should be seen as a long-term investment and not just a short-term fix.
We also need a local host – someone that specialises in the field of the event organiser.
