ATV lays off 207 staff

HONG KONG - Asia Television (ATV) has laid off 207 members of staff today in a one-off downsizing arrangement.

The lay offs cut across all departments and job descriptions.

In his letter to members of staff, ATV’s executive chairman, Linus Cheung, thanked them for all their effort and hard work but stated, “ due to the tremendous strain the company faces in its daily operations, ATV can only ride out the difficult times by downsizing.”

The affected staff have been compensated in accordance with labour laws.

“As in the past, ATV will maintain news freedom and its stance to serve the Hong Kong public remains unchanged,” Cheung said in the statement.
