Astro unit unveils Bahasa celebrity mag in Malaysia

Measat Publications, the publishing arm of cable channel Astro, has launched a new Bahasa celebrity-lifestyle driven monthly, InTrend, targeting young urban women.

Editor-in-chief, Rosie Haslinda Nasir, said InTrend's celebrity slant offered readers a chance to look inside stars' homes and browse their travel photos, in addition to providing features on fashion and beauty. "(It's) a magazine for readers to find out everything about everything, from red carpet celebrity gowns and up-to-the-minute beauty buzz to celebrity beauty and fitness secrets." The title should go down well with its readership, said Margaret AuYong, managing director of MEC Malaysia. "(It is) positioned as a young, trendy, lifestyle magazine, cleverly adopting an English name as it is targeting urban Malays, English-educated and modern in outlook," she said. The magazine will compete for high-end readers and advertisers and Blue Inc's EH, with other Bahasa-language celebrity and lifestyle in the mass market. Measat's experience should enable the title to gain a firm foothold in the market, AuYong added. Measat launched V-Mag, an English- and Chinese-language lifestyle title, last year, distributing it initially for free with Astro Guide magazine.
