Sony, which ranked second last year, dislodged Nokia from the top spot. Sony’s versatility across a wide range of consumer electronics product categories powered its climb into first, while Nokia suffered from lack of brand awareness in Japan and Korea.
This year’s survey, conducted by TNS, is the fifth annual brand ranking and the first to include Australia, Japan and Korea. The other markets surveyed were China, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand.

Japanese electronics giant Sony is Asia-Pacific's most popular brand, according to Media's 2008 Top 1000 Brands survey.
