Unlike last year when Australia and New Zealand agencies accounted for the three Grand Prix haul, two of this year's Grand Prix winners came from Malaysia (J. Walter Thompson) and Japan (NEX Media), winning in the newer outdoor and cyber categories respectively.
JWT won for its Channel 9 Media outdoor campaign, which featured a car with three missile-shaped balloons attached to it, driving through Kuala Lumpur looking like it was being targeted by missiles.
NEX took home the cyber Grand Prix for an NEC campaign. The region's third Grand Prix went to Host Sydney in direct marketing for Virgin Mobile's 'Five-Cent Texas'.
Thailand took home the only two gold Lions in film, but the Grand Prix was well out of reach, going to TBWA\London for Playstation's 'Mountain'.
The film gold Lions were won by BBDO Bangkok for Unif Green Tea, and Euro RSCG Flagship Bangkok for Soken DVD, a winner at both Media's Advertising Awards and AdFest this year.
TBWA\Paris won the Agency of the Year Lion and DDB London received the press award for its 'Cops' ad for Volkswagen.
