Amway postpones group incentive trip to Singapore

SINGAPORE The huge incentive event planned by Amway China to take almost 10,000 incentive reward recipients to Singapore has been postponed indefinitely.

Amway (Singapore) senior executive, sales and marketing Adrian Tan, said: "We have no news as to when Amway China is coming again at this point in time. Due to unforeseen circumstances, they have decided not to come. The decision was made by corporate office in China in early December 2005." According to Tan, some 9,000 delegates were supposed to have made it for the trip to Singapore in three waves. Sources in the industry said the latest decision to pull out could be due to concerns over moving big groups with the emergence of the avian flu virus. Sentosa Leisure Group communications director Corinna Cox said the island resort had been standing by for the anticipated arrival of the group in January. Hoteliers were naturally disappointed with the news. Michael Schmitt, The Oriental Singapore acting director of marketing said: "Being wellequipped and prepared to meet recreational and business needs, Amway China had a significant room block with the hotel. "The reasons for the postponement were disclosed to the hotel and as a business policy the hotel does not make comments about details of its business relationships with its clients." He said the event date is currently being reviewed by the organiser and is anticipated to be in the latter half of 2006.
