Amway calls China media pitch

GUANGZHOU - US marketing distribution company Amway has called a review of its media business in China, worth an estimated US$127 million.

Three agencies, including incumbent of two years OMD Guangzhou, Starcom and Carat, are believed to be vying for the account.

Presentations will be held in over the next six weeks.

Founded in 1959, Amway has a portfolio of over 450 dietary, cosmetic, hair and homecare products under umbrella brands such as Nutrilite, Artistry, Satinique and SA8. Creative is split along brand lines, and includes Publicis Guangzhou.

In China, the company has been forced to adapt its business model to incorporate actual stores, after an eight-year ban on direct selling in the country. In 2006, however, it received a direct selling licence, since when it has been allowed to use salespeople.
