To host Amway Korea and provide them with a tailor-made environment that provided excellent facilities for a successful business gathering and an exciting atmosphere for a fun-filled
family event.
CHALLENGES
The primary challenge was how to modify some of the resort’s facilities in a sustainable
manner so that the resort could be tailored to suit the preferences and theme of the
Amway Korea group.
While Marriott Sanya Resort and Spa customised the resort to suit Amway Korea, at the same time they still had to respect the needs of other in-house guests and not distort the facilities to a point where the other guests would no longer be comfortable during their stay.
EXECUTION
The month-long seminar was composed of different groups of 650 people checking in and out every four days.
Four special daily banquets were prepared for each group, including breakfast, lunch, dinner and midnight snacks. To accommodate the big number of participants and to provide a more customised atmosphere, the resort’s outdoor Fountain Square was converted into what became
known as Amway Square, where guests had options to dine outside or, if they preferred,
inside the Amway Korea-themed grand ballroom foyer.
A number of Korean chefs from other Marriott properties worldwide were brought in to assist in the preparation of the meals and ten tonnes of kimchi was imported from Korea for the event.
One of the resort’s function rooms was converted into a games room complete with
PlayStation consoles and computer games for the participants’ children to come in and play
with when they had had enough of swimming and the outdoors. their families.
The resort also converted another one of its meeting rooms into an English teaching centre that offered daily language lessons to the participants and their families.
Throughout the seminar, the Marriott’s general manager, department heads, managers and their assistants were on hand to assist with every detail, from seeing one group off at midnight, to welcoming the next incoming group at 3am.The delegate’s families also had a chance to visit the famous landmarks of Hainan on an island tour.
VERDICT
