Amex expands mags' reach

American Express has revamped the Asian edition of its Platinum magazine and sent out the latest issue to card-holders in India and Taiwan, boosting the title's regional circulation by almost 10,000.

At the same time, Amex has broadened the reach of the Asian edition of its Centurion magazine, previously only available in Hong Kong, sending it out to 900 members in Singapore. The move follows a global revamp of the benefits available with the Platinum charge card.

The spring edition of Platinum, a quarterly previously distributed to around 18,000 members in Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia, as well as 5,000 members in Indonesia and the Philippines, has been sent to 6,700 members in Taiwan, who receive a Chinese-language version, and 3,000 members in India.

The move was partly prompted by a readers' survey that uncovered wide similarities between readers in different countries. "The major result was that these readers have much more in common than what separates them. This was very encouraging for us to do the pan-Asian step," said Michael Klotz, associate group publisher for Journal International, which publishes the titles in Asia-Pacific, Europe and the Middle East.

Amex also reviewed the magazine content following the survey, covering areas such as culture and technology in greater depth.
