Aktiv sounds warning on online media sales

SINGAPORE - Aktiv Digital has landed a series of deals with web publishers that will see the online sales network control more than 60 per cent of the city-state's automotive sector.

The company, which launched in Singapore earlier this summer, has criticised the way in which online media is being sold in Asia. “Network sales achieve more than 30 per cent of online media spend in the US, and over 25 per cent of spend in Europe,” said Alex Khan, MD of Aktiv Digital.

“However, the Asia-Pacific online marketplace has not met advertiser expectations in transparency and accountability.”

Aktiv now sells inventory on behalf of SG CarMart, Car Forum, One Motoring and On Motoring Forum, which make up 62 per cent of online activity on motoring websites, according to Hitwise.

Aktiv has also won the right to sell Singapore’s fifth most-visited travel website, WhereAreYouNow.com.
Of the top social networking sites, only Friendster has a dedicated sales team, while none of Singapore’s most popular entertainment sites have sales representation.

Separately, Aktiv has hired senior account managers Basheer Sultan and Shamila GopAlan, taking the Singapore team to 20 staff.
