AKQA lands Unilever and Nike business

SHANGHAI - AKQA has scooped the Chinese digital business for Unilever's Lipton Yellow Label Black Tea, Lipton Milk Tea and the fabric softener brand Comfort.

AKQA will launch a series of campaigns for Lipton Milk Tea and Lipton Yellow Black Tea that will revolve around social media, video and music. It won the business following a pitch against undisclosed agencies.

Separately, AKQA has been appointed as the agency-of-record for Nike India. The agency will work with Nike out of the London, San Francisco and Amsterdam offices, as the only digital partner for Nike in India. The agency is globally aligned with Nike, and this partnership has now been extended to India, reportedly following a pitch.

As a sponsor of the Indian National Cricket Team, AKQA’s first appointment for Nike will be to launch a cricket platform for the brand, giving in-depth knowledge of the sport that targets a young, digital-savvy audience.

AKQA’s newly appointed ECD, Johan Vakidis, said: “It’s all about involvement, the Lipton brands we were appointed to work on are perfect for the kind of engagement and entertainment we want to deliver.”

Vakidis, who was previously national ECD of OgilvyOne for Shanghai and Beijing, is based in Shanghai and will work closely with the GM Leo Chu, reporting to Rei Inamoto, global creative officer based in San Francisco. He worked at OgilvyOne for eight-and-a-half years.

AKQA has over 800 staff in six offices globally with key client accounts include Kraft, Hilton Hotel, Lipton and Nike.
