AirAsia shifts media from OMD to Carat

KUALA LUMPUR - AirAsia has shifted its US$6 million media account from Omnicom's OMD to Aegis Media's Carat in Malaysia.

The move is in line with Carat's appointment as media agency for the airline’s long-haul operation, AirAsia X, in May.

Omnicom’s hold on AirAsia has been under threat since the group picked up Tiger Airways (Media 10 March), an account won by subsidiary Mediawise.

AirAsia called for a media pitch in February as part of a bi-annual agency review while looking to step up growth in North Asia as well.

AirAsia regional head of commercial Kathleen Tan said then, “As a publicly listed company, we need to have a tender and agency review every two years. It’s time we try to see a fresh partner to take the business to the next level.”
